More Christmas Cakes

These are the cakes I have marzipanned and iced for my pal, who has just had a minor op and cannot do them.   I was going to help her originally anyway, so it was just a case of collecting the cakes, and all the necessary bits from her.   She had made 5 cakes, but her grandson (who wants to be a chef) is going to ice his and hers for her.  As I knew she wanted penguins on her cake, when I made the two penguins for my cake, I made and painted a family for her to use on her cake - so will be a little less hassle for her grandson).

The design on these cakes, is one I used to teach to my students for their first Christmas cake many moons ago! Ages since I have done this design, but my pal insisted that as I was doing her such a great favour by undertaking the lot that I kept it "simple".

The candles and flowers are made from modelling or flowerpaste, the fircones have been piped, and in the case of the two cakes with red candles - the flames are flaked almonds.

7" round for her daughter - in colour scheme requested of cream and gold - so artistic licence on colours of leaves!  It doesn't show up well in the photo that well, but the candles are gold, and the holly and ivy leaves have highlights of gold on them, as do the fircones.

Christmas Cakes

Following on from the earlier post today, I thought I would share some photos of the family cakes I have finished making today:

Royal Iced cake with Penguin family

Royal Iced Cake with Snowman family (don't look at that dodgy shell edge - still as my Dad would say a blind man would be pleased to see it!

a couple more pictures of the snowman cake

and finally a sugarpasted cake with flat penguins.

Those who know the family will probably be able to guess who the recipients of the cakes are - and will give you a clue - one is mine!

Having finished these family ones, I now have three more sugarpaste ones to ice for a pal.  I had agreed to help her ice them, as she is suffering with bad hands at the moment - but she had an unexpected minor op on her foot yesterday and has been ordered to keep it up for the next 10 days -  Obviously I volunteered to undertake the marzipanning, coating and decoration for her.  I have instruction to keep them really simple - so watch this space - hopefully I will get them done over the weekend.

Family Cards

Another Times Gone By image - my daughter has 3 black cats - and this looks just like two of them.  I added a touch of glitter to the cat's collar.

and this one was created in MCS.  I used one of their Wedding Day images and converted it to black and white and mounted it on to a picture a family friend took in the local forest last week in the snow.  I loved the photo so much and when I said it would make a fab Christmas Card - she said " feel free to use it"!  and this inspired me to create this card for their first Christmas as a married couple.  I traced over the wording on the card and glittered it - looks magical in real life.

and as a little thank you for the use of her image - I created this little e-card in MCS for our friend (I faded out the image a little on this one).

Times Gone By

A little change from Christmas Cards today - some birhday cards from JS Times Gone By CD.

Just simple matting and layer of the image, a touch of sparkle and sakura clear starudst and a touch of memento cottage ivy to the flowers

Kept this simple for the man's card - image on mirri, and cream base card and mounted sentiment

Christmas Cards - Thomas Kincade

Love these images from the TK CD.  They are so detailed you don't need much else on a card.  Just a touch of glitter here and there - although I don't think the photography has done that justice - they really glisten in real life!

Robins and some Cuttlebug designs

Well here are a few more from the cards I have made this year.  First four are from JS Times Gone By CD

and the following ones were all made trying out new cuttlebug folders, and using up some peel-offs from my stash!
